The school is on its
way to becoming one of the worst in Baltimore!
The kids are so wild and disrespectful. There
is a lack of good strong leadership and support
for the teachers. The children come from all
over the city so there are some problems with
the gangs and neigborhoods getting along. They
are stuck in the old way-they don't listen or
want outside help. They can put on a good show
for visitors when needed.

It is so sad to see what is going on there. It
is one of the worse I have seen. Luckily there
is little actual hard core violance(guns, knives,
ect). The Admin is so weak and in denial. They
say it is not tooooo bad! They say there are
are worst schools. There are five people but
are they visiable or lending a hand? They should
be in the hallways during the passing of classes
and before and after school. There is lack of
communication with teachers and/or parents
from the admin. No dicipline rules are followed!
The younger teachers are leaving as soon as
they can-they can't handle it and get little
support. They are burned out. They are stressed
and frustrated at the lack of support. Many
of the students need pysch and social services
available and provided easily.Test scores are
low and they do not meet AYP.
Not much learning takes place due to behavior and attitude problems. Parents
roam and wander all around the building often disrupting classes, threating teachers
or other students, hanging around. There is poor communication with teachers
and parents from the admin. No dicipline rules are followed!
The children run wild! There are are so many bullies and lots of fighting. The
gangs intimate the good kids. They do not seem interested in learning-it seems
like fun time all the time. So many have no manners or respect for the teachers
or subs. The school is in a good area but the students come from everywhere in
the city. It could be a good school but it is not.The classes are too large for
teachers to reach all the students. They continue to take everyone elses rejects
( those kicked out of elsewhere come to Ashburton). There is a lack of supplies
for science projects and labs.I hope next year will be different but doubt it
if the Admin remains the same.

"My son has attended Ashburton Elementary
for two years. It was my understanding that this
was a very good school with strong teachers. I
am very disappointed with what we have encountered
in the last year here, and my son will be attending
a new school in the fall. The leadership, beginning
with the principal is poor. The majority of the
teachers that showed a responsive attitude to
the educational needs of students left either
voluntarily, or were fired for reasons unknown
to parents. Finally, the school, which is in a
prosperous neighborhood, is being overun by the
thugs in the middle school. It is not a positive
or safe environment."
