Comments from the principal: (July 2006)
"Welcome to BEAUTIFUL BELMONT! Parents were recently sent their child’s test scores. We were recognized as one of the top ten most improved in grade one! We continue to show growth in all grades. Thanks so very much to our parents who work so closely with their children at home as well as at school with our teachers and staff. Parents are encouraged to visit school, on a frequent basis. The many activities scheduled for our children and their families are listed in the newsletter I send home each first of the month. In addition, our teachers publish class newsletters each month. Families are encouraged to view and respond to our Parent Information Board located in our lobby. Our school and school system encourages two way communication. School to home as well as home to school communication is essential to ensure our student’s success. I am anxious to hear your suggestions for making our school even better. Please join our parent organization. As always, my door is open to you. If you prefer, I can be reached at 410-396-0578. We look forward to seeing you at our First Day Celebration. "

"Belmont Elementary School has a long way to go before I can get it an excellent rating. Parents are not involved because the school does a poor job in communicating activities and events to parents. The safefy and discipline is another issue. It is sad to see the children crying out for help and the slow response from administration. The kids are off the hook. The school does not offer youth development or workshops for the parents. This school is need of a lot of assistance."

"Belmont is a great elementary school. The principal, teachers and staff are always kind and courteous to the parents. I appreciate their continued efforts to keep the students and parents motivated throughout the school year. Dr. Lamatina is a one of a kind principal who has an extraordinary talent for reaching out to her students. The atmosphere at Belmont is always warm and cheerful, which cannot be said about many elementary schools throughout the city. Belmont has various programs that keep the children excited about attending school. However, I would like to see more programs (in the evening) that are geared toward teaching parents how to properly instruct our children on important subject matter at home that may help them improve not only in class, but also on standardized test. May the staff, students and faculty of Belmont continue to strive for the best and keep up the good work!"

"my son went to this school - a lot of the teachers are frightened of the parents-the lack of respect from the parents and no help from them leads to a very undisciplined school. The principal is tough at times but not consistant enough to warrant acknowledgement from the students, staff and parents. Staff needs to care more. Parents need to become more involved or the school should be shut down. few kids are learning. most are failing."
